Why Choose Cheap and Reliable Skip Hire for Your Home Renovation?

Waste management matters when renovating homes. From old furniture appliances to general construction materials, a lot of waste is generated during these renovations. Many people rely on cheap, Cost-Effective skip-hire services for effective waste management.

Kent Skips Norfolk offers affordable and reliable domestic skip hire. We have also provided a comprehensive review of why you should choose cheap but reliable, Cost-Effective skip hire for your home renovation.

Cost-Effective Skip Solutions

The cost-effectiveness of cheap skip hire is undoubtedly going to be one of the primary reasons for choosing the service. Home renovations tend to become pricey, and waste disposal should not add to the concern. Using affordable domestic skip hire lets you play your budget game much better and have enough money to invest in high-quality materials and professional labour for your renovation work.

Kent Skips are a skip hire company located in Norfolk that provides highly competitive prices for different packages, mainly for various ranges of projects. This could be a solution when you need to fit into your financial stress.

Convenience and Time-Saving

Any renovation project takes a long time, and the last thing you would want is waste disposal, which takes hours from your schedule. A skip hire solves this problem conveniently by saving your time and effort.

Instead of waiting for the scheduled pickups by local waste management services, you can instantly waste away the trash with a skip-hire on your property. This saves you time spent on renovation and keeps your project in progress.

Versatile Choices

There are a few other advantages of cost-effective skip hire. Kent Skips offer tailored solutions that can fits ones specific needs. It may be a small renovation for bathroom or an entirely refurbished kitchen.

Rest assured that there will be a skip to dispose of your waste as expected. This flexible choice becomes essential because you avoid extra expenses for a larger skip or, worse, hire several small skips for yourself.

Green Waste Management

Being an ecologically conscious citizen, proper waste management should be the utmost concern. Our low-cost skip hire services focus on environmentally friendly practices so that your renovation waste will be disposed of responsibly.

Domestic skip hire ensures proper separation and processing of recyclable materials from your waste. This will sustain effective practice within your community and minimise your environmental footprint.

Safety Concerns

Construction and renovation sites can be dangerous, too, especially with debris littered all over the place. A skip on your site keeps your work environment clean and organised, reducing the risks of accidents and injuries.

By disposing of your waste immediately, you create a safer space for yourself, your family, or any contractor whom you hire to work on your project. This focus on safety is one of the suitable yet overlooked advantages of selecting cheap skip hire for home renovations.

Excellent Service

The best skip-hire company will provide professional support that can further ease your renovation project. Look for good services that will take care of logistics, such as placing and collecting skips, so you do not have anything else to worry about.

Suppose you have any questions about what types of materials you can dispose of through a skip or whether there are any concerns regarding skip hire in your area. In that case, our professional representative will be able to answer and give you any potential problems you may encounter.

Easier Compliance

There are a number of rules and regulations concerning how you are permitted to get rid of waste when undertaking your home renovation. Kent Skips is one of the domestic skip hire companies you can always rely on for your home renovation, and we always consider all rules and regulations throughout Norfolk and Suffolk.

We can advise you of the local laws concerning waste disposal. This will ensure that you are compliant from the start of renovating your home. Stress can be more manageable by managing your waste responsibly with our help.

Reduce Stress

Renovation projects can be very stressful, especially with all the jobs that have to be juggled alongside the time frames you must complete. Hiring a skip will relieve some of the stresses of waste disposal. The knowledge of having a dedicated solution for your debris means you can then focus on more pressing aspects of the project.

The peace of mind delivered by the reliability of a good skip hire service can be a massive benefit in what can often be a chaotic period.

Conclusion

Choosing cheap and reliable skip hire with Kent Skips for your home renovation comes with several advantages that contribute to smoother and more efficient project execution. These benefits range from convenience to eco-friendly waste management and professional support.

Whether you’re undertaking a significant building project, house remodelling, or garden cleanup, the right skip size can ensure a smooth and practical job completion. Ideal For:

  1. Small Household Projects: Adequate for bathroom renovations, attic cleanouts, and single-room tidying.
  2. Garden Clean-Ups: Suitable for basic garden tasks like pruning branches, mowing the lawn, and removing debris.
  3. Convenience: Due to their small size, mini skips can be used in places with limited space, such as driveways or small streets.

Choosing the Right Skip Size

Evaluate the following factors when selecting a skip size:

  1. Volume of Waste: Estimate the waste volume your project will produce. Overestimating is better to avoid the need for an additional skip.
  2. Type of Waste: Consider the waste type, as heavier materials require robust skips.
  3. Space Available: Ensure there is adequate space for the skip delivery and collection.
  4. Duration of Hire: For long-term projects, a larger skip might be more economical than multiple smaller ones.
  5. Budget: Balance your budget against the scope and duration of your project.

Kent Skips is a family-run firm established in 1952, offering competitive and reliable skip hire services across South Norfolk and North Suffolk. Garden Waste 101: Soil and Rubble Disposal

As the seasons change and we find ourselves donning gardening gloves, the question of what to do with the inevitable pile of garden waste looms large. Whether you’re undertaking a major landscape overhaul or simply giving your garden its spring tidy-up, the accumulation of soil, rubble, and other green waste can be overwhelming.

Fortunately, skip hire offers a convenient and environmentally friendly solution for storing and disposing of garden waste. If you’re wondering whether skip hire is the right choice for clearing your garden in Norfolk or Suffolk, read on for advice from the Kent Skips team.

What Happens If You Put Garden Waste In The Normal Bin?

Using the normal bin for garden waste might seem like the simplest solution, but it’s not without its problems. For starters, it can quickly fill up your bin, leaving no room for regular household waste. Moreover, garden waste in landfill sites doesn’t decompose as efficiently as it would in a proper composting environment, leading to the production of methane — a potent greenhouse gas.

This not only harms the environment but also squanders the potential to recycle garden waste into valuable compost.

So, what’s the best way to get rid of your garden waste and rubbish?

Can I Put Garden Waste In My Skip?

Skip hire is an excellent option for garden waste disposal, including soil and rubble. Hiring a skip provides a designated space for your garden waste and ensures that the waste is disposed of responsibly.

However, it’s important to note that while garden waste is typically welcome, you should check with your skip hire provider about any restrictions or guidelines, especially concerning heavy materials like soil and rubble.

When you arrange a skip hire with us, we’ll happily take garden waste from your Suffolk or Norfolk home. However, if you’re emptying soil into your skip, it must not be contaminated in any way or have a history of any contamination onsite. For example, we can’t take soil if there’s been a heating oil spill or if knotweed or asbestos are present.

What Size Skip Do I Need For a Garden Clearance?

Choosing the right size skip is essential to ensure that you have enough space for all your garden waste without paying for unnecessary extra capacity. Overloading your skip can be dangerous, so it’s a wise idea to predict how much garden waste you’ll generate before confirming your skip hire.

For small to medium-sized garden clearances, a mini skip (2-4 cubic yards) could be ideal.
These are a good size for carrying soil, plants, and small amounts of rubble. If you need a visual guideline, these generally hold 28 to 56 wheelbarrow loads.

For larger projects, especially those that might create significant amounts of soil and rubble, you’ll probably need a 6-yard skip. This size skip can hold around 85 wheelbarrow loads. Are you expecting to dig up a lot of heavy materials, like concrete? If so, an 8-yard builder’s skip could be your best bet.

It can be tricky to predict your garden waste amount before starting your project so, if in doubt, it’s always better to opt for a slightly larger size to avoid the need for a second skip.

Looking for skip hire in Norfolk and Suffolk? From Diss to Thetford, the team at Kent Skips can guide you on the best size skip for your garden clearance.

What Happens To Garden Waste In A Skip?

One of the great benefits of using a skip for garden waste disposal is the peace of mind that comes with knowing your waste won’t just end up in a landfill.

At Kent Skips, we’re committed to responsible waste management — meaning your garden waste will be sorted and as much as possible will be recycled. In fact, we operate a fully licensed waste transfer station where we can handle everything from plasterboard and wood to rubble.

Wondering how we divert garden waste from landfill? We can screen soil and send it for reuse, while green waste can go on to create compost or become biomass fuel. This not only helps to reduce your environmental footprint but also contributes to the circular economy. Why not discover more about the Kent Skips recycling process?

Car Tyre Recycling: Everything You Need to Know

Each year, the automotive industry rolls out millions of vehicles, each of them fitted with tyres that, over time, wear out and require replacement.

Car tyres are made out of plastic and rubber, which poses the pressing environmental question: what should we do with the ever-growing pile of discarded car tyres? Luckily, car tyre recycling has emerged as an essential to tackle this challenge. But what exactly does the car tyre recycling process involve, and how can skip hire help you get rid of your old tyres?

The Importance of Car Tyre Recycling

Take it from Kent Skips, your go-to skip hire company covering Suffolk and Norfolk — knowing how to dispose of your old tyres properly is vital.

Car tyre recycling is the process of reusing or repurposing old tyres, and diverting them from landfill and incinerators. Often, your garage will take care of your car tyre recycling for you. However, it’s not always possible to know for sure how — and if — your car tyres are being recycled.

If you’re getting your car tyres replaced, you can ask your garage to give them back to you so that you can recycle them yourself.

The Recycling Process

Recycling car tyres involves several steps, from collection to shredding, grinding, and separation.

Collection and Transportation

The first step is the collection and transportation of discarded car tyres to recycling facilities. This is where skip-hire services play a critical role.

Skip hire companies provide specialised containers to collect and transport large quantities of tyres efficiently. These skips are designed to ensure the safe and secure transportation of tyres to recycling facilities.

Shredding

Once at the recycling facility, the tyres are shredded into small pieces using industrial shredders. This process helps in reducing the volume of tyres and preparing them for further processing.

Grinding

After shredding, the tyre pieces undergo grinding, resulting in even smaller particles. This step further breaks down the rubber, separating it from steel and fabric components.

Separation

The final step involves separating the various materials derived from the tyres. Magnetised equipment is used to extract the steel components, while specialised machinery is employed to separate the rubber from the fabric.

The rubber can then be used in various applications, including making new tyres or as a component in road construction.

What Are The Benefits of Car Tyre Recycling?

Car tyre recycling offers a range of benefits that are both environmental and economic for you.

Environmental Benefits

Whilst it may seem quite self-explanatory, car tyres require a huge amount of energy to make thanks to their thickness and durability. So it’s important to try to recycle them properly.

  • Reduced landfill usage: By diverting tyres from landfills, recycling reduces the environmental impact of tyre disposal.
  • Energy conservation: Recycling consumes less energy compared to manufacturing new tyres from raw materials.
  • Reduction in pollution: Recycling prevents tyre fires, which can release toxic chemicals into the air.
  • Conservation of natural resources: Recycling minimises the need for virgin rubber and other materials.

Economic Benefits

Not only is car tyre recycling good for the environment, but it can also help both you and the economy you live in, save money too.

  • Job creation: The recycling industry provides employment opportunities, contributing to local economies.
  • Cost savings: Using recycled rubber in tyre manufacturing can reduce production costs.
  • Market growth: The demand for recycled tyre products, such as rubber mulch and crumb rubber, is on the rise, creating new market opportunities.

Bag It Up: How to Dispose of Plasterboard Safely

Plasterboard, commonly known as drywall or gypsum board, is a versatile building material used in construction and renovation projects worldwide. While it’s an essential component in creating smooth, finished walls and ceilings, recycling plasterboard requires special care due to its composition and potential environmental impact.

Why Does Safe Plasterboard Disposal Matter?

Plasterboard may seem harmless, but it’s not something you should simply toss in the rubbish bin or leave lying around. The core of plasterboard consists of gypsum, a mineral that, when improperly disposed of, can leach into the environment and contribute to soil and water contamination.

It’s also worth noting that plasterboard can emit harmful gases if incinerated, posing health risks. So it’s important to know that proper disposal is essential to protect both the environment and human health.

Step-by-Step Guide to Safe Plasterboard Disposal

To make sure that you’re disposing of your plasterboard safely and sensibly, it’s important to make sure that you’re following the right steps during the disposal process.

1. Identify and Remove Hazardous Materials

Before you begin the disposal process, ensure that the plasterboard you’re dealing with is free of hazardous materials. Some older buildings may have used asbestos-containing plasterboard, which requires professional handling. If you suspect asbestos, contact an asbestos removal specialist immediately.

2. Break Down the Plasterboard

To facilitate proper disposal, break down the plasterboard into manageable pieces. Use a utility knife or saw to cut it into smaller sections. This not only makes it easier to handle but also ensures it fits securely in waste bags or containers.

3. Bag the Plasterboard

When it comes to bagging plasterboard, use heavy-duty waste bags designed for construction debris. These bags are sturdy and less likely to tear. Place the broken-down plasterboard pieces into these bags, making sure not to overfill them. Seal the bags securely with tape to prevent dust and debris from escaping.

4. Label and Record

To avoid confusion during disposal, label the bags with a clear indication that they contain plasterboard. This helps waste disposal facilities sort and manage materials more efficiently. Additionally, keep a record of the amount of plasterboard you’re disposing of, as some recycling facilities may require this information at a later date.

5. Consider Skip Hire for Larger Quantities of Plasterboard

If you’re dealing with a substantial amount of plasterboard, such as that generated during a home renovation or construction project, consider skip hire. Skip hire services provide large containers that can accommodate significant quantities of waste, including plasterboard. Renting a skip is an efficient way to collect and dispose of plasterboard, as the skip hire company will handle transportation and disposal on your behalf.

6. Take Legal Considerations Into Account

Before disposing of plasterboard, it’s essential to understand the local regulations and guidelines governing its disposal. Some areas have specific rules for handling construction waste, and failing to comply with these regulations can result in fines or penalties. Consult your local authorities or waste management agency for guidance on compliance.

7. Practise Responsible Recycling

Whenever possible, choose recycling as the disposal method for plasterboard. Many recycling facilities accept plasterboard and can process it into new gypsum products. Recycling helps reduce the environmental impact of plasterboard disposal and conserves valuable resources.

If recycling options are not available in your area, landfill disposal should be your last resort. When disposing of plasterboard in a landfill, it’s crucial to follow all local regulations and guidelines. Plasterboard should be placed in a designated area for construction and demolition waste to minimise its impact on the environment.

How Long Can You Keep a Hired Skip?

Are you planning a home renovation or a garden clearance project? If so, hiring a skip can be a convenient and efficient way to manage your waste. Whether you’re tackling a small DIY project or a major construction job, having a skip on hand ensures that you can dispose of your rubbish safely and responsibly.

But before arranging your skip delivery, it’s important to know how long you can keep it for. The last thing you want is to face additional charges if your project overruns beyond your skip-hire duration.

Read on to discover how long you can keep a hired skip for. And don’t forget, if you’re looking for affordable skip hire in Ipswich, Thetford, and Stowmarket, you can always contact Kent Skips.

How Long Can I Keep a Hired Skip on Private Land?

If you have a construction project, renovation, or clearout coming up, you want to plan your skip hire to make sure you always have access to waste disposal throughout. When you’re hiring a skip to go on private land, such as on your driveway or in your garden, it should be fairly straightforward.

However, every project is different, and we all know that timelines don’t always go to plan. What happens if your skip hire term ends and you still have waste to get rid of?

Well, in most cases, you should be able to extend the lease. Most skip-hire companies start with a two-week hire period. At Kent Skips, for example, we suggest an initial two weeks, whether you’re hiring a mini skip in Ipswich or need a 12-yard skip hire in Diss. However, we don’t charge any extra if your project overruns.

What we do recommend is to make sure you choose the right skip for your needs. An overloaded skip can be dangerous. So before starting any clearances, make sure you calculate how much waste you’re likely to generate. Err on the side of caution and go for a bigger skip if you have the space on your land. This means that, if you face significant delays, you should still have room to fit everything in once it’s all back up and running.

On the other hand, if it looks like your clearout or renovation will be delayed but your skip is nearing capacity, it’s best to arrange for an additional skip or a new, larger one to prevent the risk of overflowing.

How Long Can I Keep a Skip on a Public Road?

If you don’t have space on private land to store your skip, you may find you have to keep it on a public road. And if you do that, you may need to get a skip hire permit (also known as a skip licence) from the council. This will either be from Norfolk County Council if you’re arranging skip hire in Thetford or Diss or Suffolk County Council if you need skip hire in Ipswich or Bury St Edmunds.

Skip permits are vital for keeping pedestrians and road users safe and making sure you’re complying with local regulations.

A skip licence is usually valid for two weeks (costing £80.00 in Norfolk and Suffolk at the time of writing). However, you can renew the permit for a further two weeks (costing £40.00). If you’re applying for a skip permit in another part of the UK, it’s always best to double-check the timeframes with your local authority to avoid any issues or fines.

Load and Go Skip Hire

On the other hand, you might find that two weeks is far too long for your skip hire needs. Perhaps you don’t have anywhere convenient to keep a hired skip or you already have your waste prepared and ready to go. If this sounds like your situation, you could benefit from a Load and Go skip. Unlike other types of skip hire, the Load and Go option means you can dispose of your waste in 30 minutes. One of our drivers will bring the skip to you and wait for up to half an hour while you fill it. They’ll then bring it back to our transfer station for processing. You can choose any skip size you need, too — from mini skips to large 12-yard options.

Kent Skips: skip hire in Ipswich, Bury St Edmunds, and the surrounding areas

Whether you’re in need of a speedy Load and Go skip or require skip hire for an extended period, the team at Kent Skips can help. We have a range of skip sizes suitable for all projects and can work flexibly with you to ensure you have as much waste disposal as you need.

So if you’re looking for cheap but high-quality skip hire services in Norfolk and Suffolk, contact us today. We offer skip hire across the counties, from Diss and Thetford to Ipswich and Stowmarket. Get in touch if you have any questions.

Do I Need Permission to Keep a Skip on the Road?

If you’re planning to renovate your home or do some extensive landscaping work, skip hire can be a handy way to dispose of waste materials. However, if you don’t have a driveway, you may need to store your skip on a public road — and that usually requires a skip permit. Read on for all you need to know about skip permits and fines, and contact Kent Skips for affordable skip hire in Ipswich, Thetford, Diss, and the surrounding areas.

Do You Need a Skip Permit for a Driveway?

As long as the skip is on private property — for instance on your driveway or in a garden — you won’t need a skip permit. However, it’s important to make sure you have enough space on your property to accommodate the skip. It mustn’t stick out onto the pavement and cause any obstruction to pedestrians or motorists.

Permits for Keeping a Skip on the Road

Not all properties have enough space to keep a skip on private land. Perhaps you live in a flat or terraced house with no driveway, for instance. If this is the case, you’ll probably need to keep your skip on the road directly outside your property — and that will require a skip permit.

Also known as a skip licence, a skip permit is a legal requirement for anyone who wishes to place a skip on a public highway. A public highway is defined as any road or pavement that is maintained at public expense — so this includes most roads, footpaths, and verges.

Skip permits are approved and handed out by your local council. If you’re arranging skip hire in Ipswich or Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk County Council is the organisation to contact. If you’re looking for skip hire services in Thetford or Diss, it’ll be Norfolk County Council.

However, individual residents can’t apply for a skip permit — it needs to go through your skip company. At Kent Skips, we’ll happily sort your skip licence for you, taking care of all the details.

How Much Does a Skip Permit Cost?

The cost of a skip permit varies depending on your location and how long you need the permit for.

In Suffolk, for example, skip permits cost £80 for two weeks. You can renew the permit for a further two weeks for £40. (Please note, these prices are correct at the time of writing but may vary in the future).

What Happens If I Don’t Get a Skip Permit?

If you place a skip on a public highway without a permit, you could face a fine of up to £1000. You’ll also be forced to remove the skip. It’s also important to note that you could be held liable for any costs or compensation claims if the skip injures any members of the public.

Load & Go Service from Kent Skips

Have you considered Load & Go skip hire? If you don’t have a driveway or private land to store a skip on and only need it for a short time, this service could be perfect for you. Rather than arranging a regular skip permit, we’ll drive a skip to you, park up for 30 minutes while you load your waste in, then take it away again. It’s quick, easy, and cost-effective.

Affordable Skip Hire in Ipswich, Stowmarket, and the Surrounding Areas

Whether you’re looking for a mini skip or need to hire a large skip on a Load & Go basis, we have the ideal solution for you. We’ll also arrange the necessary permits so you can work on your renovation or clear out with peace of mind. Get in touch with the Kent Skips team to learn more or book your skip today.

5 Common Mistakes When Booking A Skip

Hiring a skip is a great way to dispose of waste materials and clutter from your home, office, or construction site. It’s ideal for both commercial and domestic projects. However, there are several common mistakes that can lead to additional costs and delays in the process. If you are looking for effective and affordable skip hire in Ipswich and the surrounding areas, here are five errors to avoid

1. Not estimating the right size of the skip

When you set out on a project, it can be hard to know how much space you’ll need in your skip. And getting the skip size wrong is one of the most common mistakes we see.

If you rent a skip that is too small, you may have to order a second one, which will cost you extra time and money. An overloaded skip can also become a safety hazard.

On the other hand, go for a skip that’s far too big, and you could end up paying for space you don’t need. You may also find it doesn’t fit on your premises.

So, how do you make sure you order the right size skip? You need to consider both the amount of waste your project is likely to produce and the type. Bulky bathroom suites, for example, take up a lot more room than bags of garden waste or fabric that can be squashed down.

If you’re searching for skip hire in Ipswich, Thetford, or Diss, then you’re in luck — we have a range of skip sizes, so you can make sure you get the ideal capacity for your project.

2. Not getting a permit for the skip

Often, people aren’t aware that they need a permit for their skip. If you need to store your skip on a public road or council-owned land, you’ll need to apply for a permit. Without one, you could end up with a fine from the council.

When you hire a skip from us, we can apply to either Norfolk County Council, Suffolk County Council or Norwich City Council on your behalf. You might also want to consider a ‘Load & Go’ skip.

Storing your skip on private land such as a driveway? No problem! You can go ahead and arrange your skip hire without a permit.

3. Not sorting waste materials

Many people make the mistake of not sorting their waste materials before placing them in the skip. While it can be tempting to throw it all in without any order, this could lead to additional costs and delays in the disposal process. It’s best to sort your waste materials before placing them in the skip.

You might want to use separate skips for different types of waste, or you can use one skip and separate the waste materials into different sections. If you have any questions about sorting your skip waste, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with the team at Kent Skips.

4. Including unauthorised materials

Certain materials need to be handled very carefully. If your project involves hazardous materials such as asbestos, you need to check that your skip provider has a license to handle them.

For example, at Kent Skips, we can’t accept asbestos or chemicals. We also ask that you don’t include paint tins, appliances such as fridges and TVs, or fluorescent tubes. You may find that some skip-hire companies don’t take tyres, either. We can collect these, but please note there is an additional charge.

5. Not choosing a reliable skip-hire company

Finally, one of the most common mistakes people make when booking a skip is not choosing a reliable skip hire company. There are many companies providing skips in Ipswich — but  not all of them offer the same level of service and quality.

It’s a good idea to take time to research the companies you’re interested in. Read their online reviews and make sure you check they have up-to-date licenses and insurance.

At Kent Skips, we pride ourselves on providing high-quality skips to residents of Ipswich, BurySt Edmunds, and the surrounding areas. As well as offering excellent prices — with no hidden fees — we’re friendly, honest, and reliable.

We also aim to do our bit for the environment and recycle as much waste as possible at our licensed waste transfer centre. Our current recycling rate is 85%, and we continue to improve each year.

Reliable skip hire in Ipswich

With over 30 years of experience in the waste management industry, the Kent Skips team can help make your skip-hire process in Ipswich smooth and mistake-free.

The Dangers of An Overloaded Skip

When you hire a skip, it can be tempting to stuff in everything that you possibly can — even if it means your skip is piled sky-high or overflowing. That’s just making the most of your skip hire, right?

Well, not exactly. It’s important to be aware that overloading your skip can be dangerous — to yourself, pedestrians, and even your skip provider.

Here are the dangers of creating an overloaded skip (as well as some tips to prevent an accidental overload)…

Items Could Fall Out of the Skip

Our first danger is perhaps the most obvious. If your skip is piled too high, objects could fall out of it — and on to anything or anyone passing by! You’re likely to have all sorts of sharp or heavy objects in your skip, so a fall-out could be rather dangerous or obstructive.

Falling objects can be particularly dangerous if small children, pets (like the neighbourhood dogs and cats), or the elderly are walking by. And if something falls and obstructs the road, it could be a hazard for cars and bikes. At the very least, your neighbours might not be too happy about your hazardous skip (for good reason) — and it’s never nice annoying local residents!

The Skip Could Become Too Heavy

Another issue is that your skip could become too heavy for your skip provider to safely take away. Your skip will have filling limits for a reason. Your skip provider’s machinery will be designed to lift certain weights, so an overfilled skip could put it under unnecessary strain.

A too-heavy, too-full skip is also a liability to transport. Even if nothing is falling out of the skip when it’s stationary, moving it could dislodge items that could then fall over the edge of the skip.

Your skip provider could take one look at your skip and decide it’s too risky for them to remove it. You’ll then have to spend time taking items out of your skip (and your skip provider might not want to wait around). You’ll then have to hire a new skip to accommodate your spillover items, which will take more time and money. All in all — it’s best not to overfill your skip in the first place.

Items Could Stick Out Over The Skip Edge

An overloaded skip is likely to be overflowing, with objects sticking out over the skip edge. This is extremely dangerous for pedestrians and vehicles, as they might not spot the items. They certainly won’t be expecting them!

Protruding items could hit cars, scratching them or damaging mirrors or windows as they pass. But even more importantly, they could knock a cyclist off their bike — causing them serious injury. Something sticking out could also hit or scratch a pedestrian — and this could be extremely serious if the item is at eye level. With so many risks, overloading your skip is simply not worth the risk.

To avoid this danger, take a good look all around your skip after every loading session. It’s also worth giving it a glance every time you leave your house as items could move in the wind. They could stick out over the skip even if you didn’t place them this way.

You Might Be Charged Extra For Your Skip Removal

While this isn’t a physical danger, it is a financial one! If you overload your skip, your skip provider has every right to refuse to take it away or charge you extra for the hassle.

If you’ve paid less for a smaller skip, it can be tempting to maximise it by over-filling it. But your skip provider might not be a fan of this approach! If you know you’re going to have lots of waste to get rid of, it’s best to pay for the appropriate size skip from the start. You’ll end up paying more in the long run if you don’t. If you’re unsure about the best size for you, just ask your skip provider — they’ll be able to advise you.

What skip hire is available in Wymondham? And when to use it

When planning a renovation or major home clearout, skip hire is a great way to dispose of your waste in a safe and convenient manner. Instead of figuring out what to recycle and wasting time heading back and forth between the local tip, a skip hire service can handle it all from your doorstep.

But you may be wondering, what skip hire is available near me? And how do I go about choosing the right service for my needs? A quick google search will provide you with an overwhelming amount of skip hire options, but it can be tricky to figure out which are reliable and cost-effective.

But don’t worry, at Kent Skips we’re here to help! We’re a friendly, transparent skip hire company operating in the South Norfolk and North Suffolk area, and are committed to helping our customers choose the best service for them.

With Kent Skips, skip hire is made easy. And with that said, here’s our guide to skip hire, and when to use it!

Garden clearances

It’s incredible just how much waste can be accumulated when clearing out a garden. A few cuttings off of an overgrown hedge can quickly become a bin-full once you get started, and there’s only so much you can squeeze into a waste bin or car boot.

Hiring a skip is therefore an easy, hassle-free way to get rid of your garden waste, and our mini and midi skips are perfect for this job. The mini, 2-yard skip can hold around 28  wheelbarrows of waste, while our midi 4-yard skip is able to hold 56 wheelbarrows of waste.

In addition, with the option to have skips lifted over garden fences, or placed on driveways,  your garden skip is certain to be accessible, ensuring easy waste removal. But if you’re still concerned about where you’ll store your skip, don’t worry! At Kent Skips we also offer a Load & Go service, perfect for quick removals and customers who may not have the space to store their skip.

Home clearances

Home clearances are a great way to give new life to the environment you live in, however, they can also be a daunting task. Sifting through clutter and removing furniture takes time and energy, so we’d imagine that the last thing you want to be thinking about is how best to recycle this waste.

Skip hire is not only a convenient way to dispose of your household rubbish but is also more environmentally friendly that you realise! At Kent Skips we’re proud to say that 85% of skip material is recycled.

All waste in our skips passes through our transfer centre where it is processed and recycled where possible. Plus, there’s no need for customers to separate their mixed materials, as we’ll take care of this in our sorting process.

When choosing a skip size for your home clearance, it really depends on the size of the project. While our mini and midi skips are most suitable for the majority of clearances, our larger 12-yard skips may be better suited to major removals. Our team of professionals will be happy to discuss your project and determine the best skip for you.

Renovations

For the majority of renovation projects, skip hire is essential for the safe removal of building waste. And when professional workers such as builders and carpenters are involved in a  project, making sure you have the right size skip is crucial for ensuring that work runs smoothly. The last thing you want is to find is that work has to come to a halt because your skip is too full!

Renovations often require the disposal of larger quantities of material and heavy-duty items such as concrete waste. It is therefore important to check your skip has both the capacity and strength to contain your waste.

While our 8-yard skips are suitable for minor-scale renovations, our range of roll on-roll off skip hire options are a great choice for larger projects.

Do You Need A Skip For Spring Cleaning?

Spring cleaning can be a hugely beneficial process – and it doesn’t have to happen in spring! No matter the time of year, taking stock of your belongings and decluttering is positive for all homes.

Whether you’re planning a big clearout during the warmer weather or in the midst of winter, you might be wondering whether or not a skip would be helpful.

Here are some areas to consider when deciding whether or not to book a skip from a skip hire company. And don’t forget, if you’re looking for skip hire in Ipswich, Bury St Edmunds, or Stowmarket, you can contact Kent Skips.

How much stuff will you be getting rid of?

The first thing you need to consider when deciding whether or not to hire a skip is how much you’ll actually be getting rid of. Are you having a quick tidy, removing a few items here and there? Or are you planning a major declutter?

Think about the size of the items you’ll be getting rid of. If it’s a minimal spruce up, getting rid of a handful of small items, then contacting a skip hire company may not be necessary.

However, if you’ve got large items, like furniture or big pieces of rubble, then a skip might be just what you need. Skip hire can be particularly helpful if you don’t have a suitably sized car in which to take big items to the recycling centre or tip.

What size skip will you need?

The next factor to think about is what size skip you need. If you’ve established that skip hire would be helpful, look at the different sizes available. At Kent Skips, for example, we have an array of roll on roll off skip-hire options. From 2-yard mini skips that are suitable for small household or garage clearances to 6-yard skips that can hold the contents of a large property clearout or building project, it’s important to select the right size. Go for a skip that’s too small and you run the risk of overfilling and needing a second, too large and you could pay more than you need to.

Are you disposing of any hazardous materials?

It’s important to know that some items and materials are not suitable for skip disposal. Hazardous materials – including chemicals and paint – cannot go in your skip. Instead, you’ll have to check with your local council about the best disposal options.

For example, will you need to handle asbestos? If so, you’ll have to make sure a qualified specialist disposes of this dangerous material for you.

Electronics and appliances are also not suitable for most skips. If you’re not sure whether something can go in the skip or not, just give your local skip hire company a call and they’ll be happy to help.

You might also want to think about recycling. Will you have recyclable materials to get rid of? At Kent Skips, we operate a fully licensed waste transfer station and  Our current recycling rate is approximately 85%. We’re continually trying to improve this – so you know your waste will be handled responsibly.

Do you have a suitable driveway or roadside space?

When hiring a skip, you’ll need to work out where to put it. If you have a private driveway, that’s ideal. However, if you don’t, you’ll need to arrange a permit. This is something to consider when deciding whether or not to hire a skip for your spring clean.

If your skip will need to be on the roadside, apply for a skip license from the government, and make sure you let your skip hire company know in advance.

What’s your timeframe?

Hiring a skip is an excellent way to speed up your spring cleaning process. You can throw all your rubbish in the skip and not worry about it!  It’s worth thinking about your project timeframe. If you want to get it all done in a day or weekend, you may be more inclined to seek the services of a skip hire company.

On the other hand, if you think you’ll need to hire a skip for longer, you may want to explore what this will look like cost-wise. By that same token, if your spring clean is likely to be carried out over several weeks, a skip can still save you time. It will minimise the number of trips you need to do to other bins or your local recycling centre.

Kent Skips: your local skip hire company

Now you’ve considered the above factors, you can decide whether or not hiring a skip is a good option for your spring clean or home clear-out. Ultimately, it depends on the quantity and type of waste you’re getting rid of and whether you have a driveway or require a skip license.

If you’re searching for affordable and reliable skips in the Ipswich area, contact Kent Skips. As a family-run skip hire company based in Diss, we cover a range of south Norfolk and north Suffolk areas.

5 Secrets Of Successful Skip Hire In Norfolk

At Kent Skips, we know a thing or two about hiring a skip company. However, most people don’t know the ins and outs of skip hire. To make the process a little easier, here are our five secrets of successful skip hire in Ipswich, Thetford, and Norfolk.

Let’s get into it…

A Reliable Skip Hire Company Makes All The Difference

One of the most important pieces of advice we have is to choose a reliable skip company to complete your job.

When hiring a skip, it’s common to ask questions and liaise about delivery and removal. It can be frustrating when your hire company doesn’t pick up the phone or give you clear answers. Choosing a reputable and trustworthy company will save you time and stress — trust us!

You’ll also want to be sure that the company is going to dispose of your waste in a legal and safe manner. Preferably, they’ll recycle most of it too!

Know Your Requirements

Before you contact a skip hire company, know what you need from a skip hire service. This will help you avoid choosing the wrong business or hire option.

Will you need lots of skips over the next few months? Will one Load & Go service be sufficient? Will you need a street permit for your skip or do you have a driveway?

Take time to think through what would be best for you. Rushing to hire any old skip could end up costing you more, for instance, if you forget to choose a local company or hire a skip that’s too small.

Skip Size — Not Too Big, Not Too Small

This brings us to our next point. The best skip hires get the job done and dusted in one swoop. Unless you’re working on a long-term project, there will probably be a skip size that can accommodate all your waste in one delivery and removal.

Assess the nature of your project and hire a skip any size between 2-12 yards.

Why not take a look at our skip size options?

If You Can Do Load & Go, Do It!

Successful skip hires are cost-effective, quick, and get the job done. If suitable for your needs, a Load & Go service could tick all these boxes for you. This type of skip hire could get your rubbish collected and sent off for recycling before you know it!

It’s a particularly good option if you don’t have a driveway or front garden to park your skip on. A driver will bring your skip to your location, wait a specified amount of time (usually around 30 minutes) whilst you fill it up, and then take it back to the company’s transfer station to be processed.

Best of all, you can still choose a variety of skip sizes and waste types for this service. Plus, it means you won’t need a permit to keep it on the street (which can cost money).

You’ll just need to make sure that your waste is already and waiting for collection. If you’re in the middle of a renovation or construction project and will be producing waste over a longer period of time, Load & Go won’t be suitable for you.

If you’re based in the Norfolk area, ask us about our excellent Load & Go service. It’s one of our most popular services.

Ask Questions Before Hiring

Don’t be afraid to ask a skip hire company your questions. They will have heard them all before and should be happy to answer them! It’s always best to settle your queries before hiring a skip and making payment. What if the answer is “no” and it means they can’t remove your waste? It’s best to find out sooner rather than later.

Keep in mind that skip hire companies often list FAQs on their website, so you might find common questions answered there. Common FAQs include “What items can’t go in a skip?”, “How high can I fill the skip?”, and “How wide does access need to be for the skip to be delivered?”.

At Kent Skips, we’ve listed some FAQs on our website too. Take a look at our skip hire FAQs for skip delivery in the Norfolk area.
