Everything you need to know about skip hire

Everything You Need to Know About Skip Hire

If you have not hired skips in Ipswich before, you’re probably wondering where to start.

Here’s an overview of everything you need to know. When you’re ready, you can book online or contact us with a question.

1. What can’t I put in a skip?

There are some items that we cannot dispose of, which include the following:

  • Hazardous materials
  • Gas canisters
  • Asbestos
  • Batteries
  • Fridges

Prohibited items are usually returned and there may be an additional charge. If your skip is roadside we strongly advise you to check their skip in case passers-by have thrown rubbish into it.

If in doubt, check before disposing of any item that concerns you. We’re always happy to help if you’re unsure.

2. Do I need to get a skip permit?

If you intend to put a skip on a public highway, we will contact your local council to arrange a permit. You will need to pay a non-refundable fee and it takes 5 working days for us to make arrangements.

3. What skip size do I need?

This will depend on how much and the type of waste do you need to dispose of. It does not make sense to pay for space you’re not going to use. Estimate how much rubbish you will need to get rid of before organising your hire.

We offer skip hire throughout Thetford in many sizes. If you’re clearing your garden or small home, our mini 2-yard skips can often be sufficient.

Do you need to get rid of bigger heavy-duty items, like rubble and concrete as part of a building project? One of our 8-yard skips would probably be more suitable.

You can find a full list of our skip hire sizes here. Once you have decided which one suits your requirements, you can book online.

4. Other popular FAQs

Can my skip be lifted over a wall?

Yes, but please confirm prior to booking that your wall is not higher than 3ft.

How much can I put in my skip?

Please don’t overfill it. If it’s greater than level, it could overflow and our driver may not be able to remove the load safely.

Are your skips equipped with doors?

Some of our midi 4-yard skips have a drop front, so please check before booking. Our 6- and 8- yard skips feature a drop-front but our mini and 12-yard options don’t.

How long can I keep my skip?

The fee you pay includes the use of your skip for up to two weeks. When you are ready, get in touch and we will arrange a collection.
